Ahead of me, hands are being shaken and warm words exchanged. The sun has just set, and there is a faint glow coming off various luminaries.“Why are you just standing there?” my wife says, coming up behind me. Continue reading...

Tennis superstar is latest celebrity to sport a ‘refined’ moustache which owes little to bushy Tom Selleck lookThe tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz might have been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in straight sets earlier this week, but he did so sporting a moustache that became almost as remarked upon as his aptitude for a sneaky drop shot.“I always wanted to step on the court at least once with the moustache,” Alcaraz said.
The Spaniard and his team had all agreed to take the facial-hair plunge if he won the Japan Open, which he did for a second straight year. “¡Bigotes para todos!” or “moustaches for everyone”, they apparently cheered at the end of the match. Continue reading...

The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival will open this Saturday at Haneul Park in western Seoul and run through Oct. 23 under the theme “Silver Grass, Comfort From Nature.” Haneul Park, part of World Cup Park in Mapo District, sits on Nanjido, a former island that served as Seoul’s landfill until 1993. After ecological restoration, the site reopened as World Cup Park in 2002, the same year the festival was launched.
The park’s hilltop is covered in silver grass, which turns silvery white each autumn. The festival will run daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. across about 192,000 square meters. Its centerpiece is a series of four gardens designed to engage the senses. Visitors can leave wishes and messages in one, read books at a camping-style rest area in another and relax among red summer cypress and silver grass in a third.
At night, a fourth garden will light up an existing silver grass horse sculpture as a photo zone. Lighting shows combining light and music will run every 30 minutes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. An opening ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Saturday. Busking performances spanning ballad,
The engaging TV doctor dismantles the spurious science behind modern day snake oils, from collagen to turmericWhen Xand van Tulleken set off on a journey into the wild west of wellness, he didn’t expect to discover anything new about vitamin D. Of all the supplements that line our shelves and social media feeds, it ought to be the least controversial; even the NHS website, which is hardly a wellspring of quackery, advises that everyone should consider taking a daily dose during autumn and winter, when we risk becoming deficient (D is the vitamin we get mostly from sunlight, and which helps keep our bones strong). The tiggerish TV doctor and twin brother to Chris (he’s the one who wrote Ultra-Processed People about the food industry) qualified at a time of high excitement in vitamin D circles; in the early 2000s, big studies were linking it not just to bone health but cancer, heart disease and dementia.
“The range of potential problems to be solved was dizzying,” Van Tulleken writes in Make Me Well. Continue reading...
