It was a pitch that got away. Kia Tigers starter James Naile was cruising along against the Samsung Lions in their opening game of a Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason series Monday night. Naile had allowed just one single through four innings at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in the southeastern city of Daegu.
But then with one out in the bottom of the fifth, Naile hit Park Seung-kyu in the head with a fastball. Under KBO rules, it resulted in an automatic ejection. Park stayed in the game and scored the Lions' first run, but the Tigers went on to take the game by 5-1.
Speaking with Yonhap News Agency a day after the incident, Naile called the hit-by-pitch "pretty unfortunate." "I am very glad that Seung-kyu is OK. I certainly never wanted to hit him, certainly don't want to hit anybody in the head," Naile said prior to Game 2 of this series.
"But other than that, I felt like I pitched really, really well. I wish my day didn't end like that because I think it would have been a pretty special game. "I was a little bit embarrassed and mad at myself, but in my whole career, that is the f

DAEGU — The Samsung Lions launched two home runs to beat up on the Kia Tigers 8-3 to even up their South Korean baseball postseason series Tuesday. Cleanup Lewin Diaz smoked a two-run home run, and the 42-year-old veteran Choi Hyoung-woo blasted a solo shot as the Lions took the second game of this best-of-five series in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in the southeastern city of Daegu.
Starter Ariel Jurado pitched 6 2/3 strong innings for his first career postseason victory. At 42 years, 10 months and 11 days old, Choi became the oldest player to play and get a hit, a home run and an RBI in a KBO postseason game.
The Lions pounded out nine hits before a sellout crowd of 23,550, after managing only two hits in a 5-1 loss in Monday's series opener. The series now shifts to the Tigers' home city of Gwangju, some 270 kilometers south of Seoul, for Games 3 and 4 on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
They will both begin at 6:30 p.m. The winner of this battle will advance to the Korean Series starting next week. The KT Wiz, who had the best record in the regu

Kia Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho said Tuesday he was not surprised by substantial changes to the lineup of his Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason opponent. The Tigers beat the Samsung Lions 5-1 to begin their best-of-five series at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in the southeastern city of Daegu on Monday.
The Lions, after managing just two hits in the loss, put veteran slugger Choi Hyoung-woo back in the lineup for Tuesday. Outfielder Park Seung-kyu moved up from the No. 5 spot to the No. 2 hole in the order, too. Choi was held out of the lineup initially because there was no designated spot available for him, and he is largely regarded as a defensive liability.
But Park said earlier in the day he will prioritize offense in Game 2. Lee said his pitchers will be ready to handle whatever comes their way, with four left-handed batters in the middle for the Lions. "I expected Hyoung-woo to get the start today, and also figured Seung-kyu would hit higher up in the order, too," Lee said.
"We will have some left-handed relievers ready to go when the situation calls for it. As far as our game

As K-pop, Korean cosmetics and fashion continue to capture global consumers, a darker shadow industry has grown alongside them: counterfeiters pumping out fake Korean goods, and international smuggling syndicates attempting to move illicit narcotics across borders. In response, Korea’s top customs official is launching a broad diplomatic campaign to enlist global enforcement agencies in cracking down on intellectual property theft and drug trafficking.
Lee Jong-wook, head of the Korea Customs Service (KCS), will initiate the campaign on Oct. 29, during a high-level summit with his Japanese counterpart. The bilateral meeting marks the starting line of an ambitious diplomatic expansion aimed at building real-time information-sharing networks with key trading partners across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
During the upcoming Tokyo summit, KCS said Lee plans to formally request that Japanese customs authorities streamline application processing for Korean companies seeking border enforcement of their intellectual property rights. Under Japan’s customs protection system — which mirrors
